Siemens is a global powerhouse focusing on the areas of electrification, automation and digitalization. One of the world’s largest producers of energy-efficient, resource-saving technologies, Siemens is a leading supplier of systems for power generation and transmission as well as medical diagnosis. In infrastructure and industry solutions the company plays a pioneering role.
Siemens’ SINUMERIK CNC offers high-productivity automation solutions for the jobshop, job order manufacture, and mass production. The complexity of the machines require multiple training manuals and guides. This usually resulted in large amounts of physical manuals that weighed down the consumer. The use of multiple manuals would also slow troubleshooting or calibration of SINUMERIK CNC machines. Siemen’s wanted to streamline the manuals and resources into a simple and accessible app. The app had to meet Siemen’s brand guidelines and have a user-friendly interface.
UXM created an app for Siemens that condensed over 20 manuals and 7,000 pages of training manuals into one app. The app is structured around 5 tabbar items, Training, G-code Calculator, Videos, Glossary, and More. Under the training tabbar item, the manuals are sorted under the various model names. Due to the large amount of manuals the user can selectively download the needed manuals. This function helps optomize the app and take up less space on the device.
To enhance the app, UXM integrated annotation tools that gives the user the ability to mark up the training manuals. The tools include text boxes, highlighter, pencil, and zoom. All annotations are automatically saved.
Another feature that was implemented is the G-Code calculator. This feature allowed for users to plug in variables in order to retrieve the proper calibration for their specific SINUMERIK CNC model.
To enhance the app, UXM integrated annotation tools that gives the user the ability to mark up the training manuals. The tools include text boxes, highlighter, pencil, and zoom. All annotations are automatically saved. To achieve this UXM had to build its own PDF reader from scratch. It is availabe for download on Github (you’re welcome).
Training videos and testimonial are also embedded in the app. This allowed for a more visual approach to learning about hte SINUMERIK CNC. A backend portal allows for admins to upload or delte existing videos on the app.
A glossary module was also included for any clarification that may be needed by users as they go through the training manuals.
Overall the app saved Siemens money by reducing printing costs. The app also ensured up-to-date resources were being distributed; edits can be pushed across all apps with a simple update. The app was well recieved by Siemens and their clients with a 4.5 star app rating.
For module one Horizon needed to train their employees on the proper ways of recognizing fellow employees.
To meet the multi-faceted needs of Culligan, UXM created an app that streamlined marketing materials and sales tools for three departments.
